The establishment of CyberSecurity Malaysia was the result of the following chronological events:

13 January 1997

The Malaysian Computer Emergency Response Team (MyCERT) was established with the objective of addressing computer security issues amongst Malaysian internet users.

24 January 1998

The National Information Technology Council (NITC 6/98) meeting chaired by the then Prime Minister Y.A.Bhg Tun Dr Mahathir agreed that an agency be formed to address ICT security issues in the country, hence the birth of NISER (National ICT Security and Emergency Response Centre).

30 October 1998

The Government IT and Internet Committee (GITIC 3/98) meeting decided that NISER was to be established as a separate unit within MIMOS Berhad (Malaysian Institute of Microelectronics System).

28 May 1999

The Strategic Thrust Information Committee (STIC 1/99) meeting agreed that NISER was to establish, coordinate and maintain cyber defence initiatives with other relevant agencies.

10 April 2001

NISER was officially launched by the then Deputy Prime Minister, Y.A.B Dato' Sri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi after being fully operational in December 2000.

28 September 2005

The Cabinet decided to separate NISER from MIMOS Berhad and be established as a Company Limited by Guarantee under the purview of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).

7 April 2006

NITC Meeting 1/2006, chaired by the Prime Minister Y.A.B Dato' Sri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi agreed on the National Cyber Security Policy (NCSP) and NISER to carry out the function of national cyber security agency.

30 March 2007

NISER was given additional mandates and renamed CyberSecurity Malaysia.

20 August 2007

CyberSecurity Malaysia officially launched by Prime Minister of Malaysia.
